Preserving Summer's Produce

  • Teaching Table 475 Sterling Place Brooklyn, NY USA (map)

No one likes to see the end of summer, especially the end of summer produce bounties. But you don't have to kiss goodbye the fruits of summer when you leave behind long weekends at the beach. Why not learn how to store some jarred goodness next to your camping gear in that cramped closet this fall? Even better, I can teach you how to use your freezer for more than vodka and ice cubes. Future self will thank you.

In this virtual class, you'll learn the basics of preserving with multiple methods, including quick pickling, canning and freezing and through the production of a few tasty recipes, depending on what you have in abundance. This class involves discussion, assorted demonstrations, and hands-on at home. My demonstrations could include 2-3 of the following, but I will guide you through endless ways to preserve whatever you have in your own bounty:

  • Tomato basil sauce or quick crushed tomatoes

  • Pickled beets

  • Caramelized Peach Preserves

  • Garlic Herb Butter

  • Habañero Hot Sauce

  • Muhammara Roasted Red Pepper Sauce

  • Flash frozen sweet corn, berries and more

No special tools, equipment or ingredients needed. You will receive a list of materials and ingredients when you register. I will guide you through substitutions, variations and what you need for your bounty.

$25 per email address - your entire household can join.

All ages welcome and encouraged.

Class is live and meets virtually via google meets.
